대학 입시 에세이 작성을 위한 맞춤형 지도를 제공합니다.

제 아이는 하버드 대학교 재학 시절 Admission Office에서 근무한 경험이 있으며, 지난 6년간 대학 지원 학생들을 대상으로 에세이 지도를 해왔습니다. 하버드대학교 인터뷰 당시 제 아이의 에세이가 engaging해서 인상 깊었다고 평가받은 바 있습니다.

입학 사정관들이 매일 수많은 에세이를 읽으며 지루함을 느낄 때, 우리 아이의 에세이를 읽으면서 '흥미롭다'고 생각하게 된다면 큰 차별화가 될 것입니다. 물론 에세이의 흐름, 일관성, 편집 등 기본적인 글쓰기 지도를 철저히 진행합니다.

훌륭한 대학입시 에세이를 준비하는 것이 목표이지만, 이 과정에서 persuasive writing을 배우게 된다면 장기적으로 학생들의 의사소통 능력에 큰 자산이 될 수 있습니다. 실제로 여러 학생들이 이 경험이 매우 유익했다고 평가하고 있습니다.

학생들이 대학 입시 에세이 주제를 정하고 초안을 작성하여 선생에게 보내면, Google Docs를 통해 피드백을 제공합니다. 에세이가 완성될 때까지 이 과정을 여러 번 반복할 수 있으며, 필요 시 에세이의 방향을 어떻게 잡을지에 대한 브레인스토밍 상담도 진행합니다.

에세이지도 과정은 아래와 같습니다.

The total time depends on what shape the essay is in when I first receive it, but the total essay editing process generally happens in 3 stages.

Stage 1:

Stage 1: If the student hasn’t written their essay yet and only has the prompt, I will help them brainstorm unique ideas based on their own experiences.

Stage 2: if the student has already written their first draft, I will first assess the general overall content- to see if what they wrote about best fits the prompt and if their thesis message is coming through. If any changes need to be made, I’ll provide detailed feedback and ask the student to rewrite part of the essay.

Stage 3: After we get the overall content down, I help with the detailed writing choices + any grammar mistakes. It’s important to make the essay stand out to the application reviewer!

The essay is sent to me over email; I’ll make edits/feedback and send it back for the student to revise. It usually takes 3+ times of going back and forth for the essay to be ready.
